In order to make things easier for aspiring investors, here are some
pointers on what a person should do when looking for real estate
mentors:

• Look at profiles and information about well-known real estate gurus.
• Ask for referrals from other investors.
• Contact real estate coaches personally via e-mail and ask questions.
• Follow different real estate coaches online.
• Go to different real estate seminar sessions each week.

Good topic Lilly,

I just talked to my mentor from 7 years ago this morning. He's inexpensive, and extremely knowledgeable. He does all types of investing with Single Family Homes, mostly seller financing and cash. I interviewed several people before making the decision to hire him. The most important thing that he helped me to do was TAKE MASSIVE ACTION. Once I took MASSIVE ACTION my phone started to ring!! How about that? People were actually calling me to buy their house!!! The rest was weeding out the tire kickers etc.... I started to find people regularly with equity that were motivated & actually wanted to make a deal. Once I made my first few deals I kept repeating the process over & over again and I didn't have to call him any more for advice. People started to ask me for advice on Real Estate. Now I help people regularly online and by phone... gotta give back.
Thanks, Joe.

With that tip you just shared, I guess you are ready to become a mentor yourself. Is your mentor still a mentor, by the way?
Yes he's still mentoring folks for only an additional few hundred dollars more than I paid 7 years ago. I have mentored others in the past, I'm still doing wholesale deals and I'm the affiliate manager for Mike Collins of REIWired.com. That keeps me extremely busy so I had to stop taking on mentoring students for now.
How much is he selling his training resources now, anyway?

Lilly,

I think he charges just under $2500 for 6 months but he will take your phone call if it's after the 6 months. He wants all of his students to succeed.

Having someone to look up to can motivate you to continuously enhance your skills and expand your knowledge in hopes of being able to catch up with your mentor. You can avoid making costly mistakes because like a shepherd to his flock, mentor's can lead you to the right direction. Because he’s been in the business for so long, he can tell if a real estate deal is worth pursuing or not.

Now that is really generous of him, Joe. What's his specialization?

That's also true, Lea. Newbie investors can gain more confidence if they've been led by the best and if they feel that they have really learned a lot about the industry.

He specializes in seller financing deals with no money down and wholesaling. His name is Larry Harbolt, he's a faculty member of REIWired. Here's a link to a video of Larry http://reiwired.com/video/creative-seller-financing-larry-harbolt/ he's old school, but once you get the concepts down your set for life.
